Basketball 101

The Summer Basketball Program is a fun, high-energy class designed for students in grades 4–7 who want to improve their basketball skills while building confidence and teamwork. Students will work on fundamentals like dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, and game strategy through engaging drills, small-group activities, and friendly games. The focus is on learning, effort, and having fun—no matter your child’s experience level.
For parents, this program offers a safe, structured environment led by current HMS basketball staff, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, skill development, and positive habits that carry over both on and off the court. Whether your child is new to basketball or already loves the game, this class is a great way to stay active, make friends, and grow as a player this summer.
Coding and 3D Printing!

Fun Film Making

Fun Film Making- Learn how to make movies, vlogs, video shorts, script writing, film editing, learn camera angles for filming, green screen filming with cutting edge ipads, learn how to use CapCut and iMovie software. Students will write, film and edit their own movies! Every week students hold a Student Film Festival to showcase their film projects! Everyone directs, writes, and edits their own student movies. Introduction to Weight Training

Introduction to Weightlifting is a beginner-level course focused on teaching students the fundamentals of strength training in a safe and structured environment. Students will learn proper lifting techniques, basic movement patterns, equipment use, and gym safety protocols. The course emphasizes correct form, injury prevention, physical fitness, and personal goal setting while promoting discipline, confidence, and healthy training habits. No prior weightlifting experience is required.💪
Indoor-Outdoor Gaming
Grade: 4-6

Instructor: Angel Solis
Students will use critical thinking skills, hand eye coordination, sportsmanship, and teamwork learning to play indoor games and outdoor games. Indoor games will include Chess, checkers, Jenga, ping pong, and other board games. Outdoor games will include nontraditional games such as Ultimate Frisbee, Olympic handball, frisbee golf, flag tag and traditional games will include baseball, kickball, handball, etc. Each week will feature a different class tournament while focusing on positive behavior, sportsmanship, and respect.
Intro to Volleyball
Grades: 5-7

Students will be introduced to the basic rules, skills, and teamwork needed to play. The class will focus on learning fundamental skills such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, and basic defense. Students will also learn about court positions, scoring, rotations, and safety rules. Developing coordination, communication, and sportsmanship. By the end of the class, students will have a basic understanding of how to play volleyball and feel more confident working as a team while staying active and having fun.
Medical Arts & Science Smorgasbord

Get ready for a fun, hands-on summer course! Learn about comparative anatomy as we dissect various organisms such as frogs and squid. Design and build bridges and earthquake towers and test their strength. Learn science concepts as we do other activities such as building and testing parachutes, extract DNA from plants, and make ice cream!
Model Making Fun
Grades: 5-7

Model Building has been offered as a Summer School class for over 40 years in San Marino. Many of our previous students have gone on to professions including engineering, dentistry, medicine and sciences. Model building improves reading comprehension, the ability to complete sequential activities, promotes patience and builds confidence in young students. Modelers provide their own kits, available at local hobby stores. All other materials will be provided in class. Most students succeed well with level 2 kits with some graduating to level 4. Most kits are automobiles, airplanes, ships or anatomical models. Other model-building activities will include paper airplane contests, clay sculpting, and working with Legos.
Musical Theater

Come sing, act, and create! Join our musical theatre class and learn how to break down scripts, build core improv skills, write your own mini scenes, and work toward a final end-of-class showcase. By the end of the course, you’ll be performing solos or duets, gaining confidence, making great friends, and picking up skills that stay with you long after the curtain call.
Pre-Algebra Prep
Grade: 7

Pre-Algebra Prep will provide a review of the grade level just completed to reinforce and ensure the students have mastered the grade level standards. It is important that these foundational skills are strong and can be performed with quick recall and accuracy. This class will also offer an brief introduction to Pre-Algebra concepts. Topics include adding & subtracting like & unlike fractions and mixed numbers, multiplying & dividing mixed numbers & fractions, decimals, percents, fractions, numerical & algebraic expressions, order of operations, solving one-step, two-step and multi-step equations, word problems and much more. This class is best suited for rising 7th grade students who will be enrolled in Pre-Algebra in the Fall of 2026.
Speech and Debate Fundamentals

This course will explore various strategies aimed at improving your academic performance and getting you ready to start the new school year. Key topics will include time management, note-taking, goal setting and prioritization, organization of written work, test preparation, test-taking techniques, homework and project planning, memorization strategies, and more. The skills gained in this course will provide lasting benefits, both academically and in other aspects of your life.
